Guide

How this measure works

What it measures

This chart counts how many Bitcoin blocks were mined in each UTC day. The protocol targets one block about every 10 minutes, or 144 a day.

Formula

Blocks per day = number of blocks mined in one UTC day; the protocol target is 144, one block about every 10 minutes

How to read it

More than 144 blocks a day means blocks came faster than target, usually because hashrate grew since the last difficulty adjustment. Fewer means blocks came slower. Over the last year the low was 98 blocks on Jan 24, 2026 and the high was 197 blocks on Feb 15, 2026.

Long ranges (5Y, 10Y and All) show a 7-day average to reduce daily noise. YTD and 1Y, the cards and the summary above use daily values. The tooltip shows both.

To keep everyday moves readable, the chart axis leaves out the most extreme 2% of readings in the selected range. Those days are marked with triangles at the chart edge, and the tooltip shows their value.

Limitations

Daily block counts vary by chance; long ranges show a 7-day average. The block count includes the genesis block, so the block height is one less than the count. Read it together with other charts.
